23rd June

A day to explore the great countryside around the Marais Poitevin and further afield.  Destinations included La Rochelle, Ile de Re and the local supermarket, all worth visiting.  John and Pam reported that Australian Dave had redeeemed himself after leading them astray on the way to the site, by taking them efficiently to La Rochelle and back. (Aussie Dave reckoned that the problem on the way here may have had something to do with John’s instruction to him!)

The afternoon was spent watching England secure their place in the last 16 of the World Cup, outside in bright sunshine. (the team in Port Elizabeth and us in Coulon!)  Thanks Alistair and Ingrid for your hospitality and the G&T.

In the evening, we were treated to probably the best group meal of the tour, thanks to the fantastic team at Camping La Venise Verte.  The table and the food were beautifully presented under a large gazebo, I couldn’t resist taking pictures of the food before eating it as it looked as good as it tasted.  The thanks from all of us go to Martine, the chef, and all the staff who looked after us.
